  1. It's been 17 years since The Simpsons last had a video game on consoles, but this year's Treehouse of Horror is offering fans of the show a glimpse of the bloody fighting game they'll never get to play. Animator Jorge Gutierrez--the writer and director of the 2014 animated film, The Book of Life--contributed an opening sequence that reimagines the famous animated family as the grotesque stars of Los Simpsons Fighter.

Gutierrez redesigned several of Springfield's residents in his signature style, while depicting a Mortal Kombat-inspired Fatality for Marge and Lisa to perform on Snake. Bart had more mercy for his idol, Krusty the Clown, while Maggie's fusion with Homer backfired against them during their battle with Mr. Burns and Smithers, who have finally been joined as one monstrous being. Gutierrez even referenced The Book of Life, with guest appearances by Xibalba and La Muerte.

"I've been a huge Simpsons fan ever since Bart first appeared in my beloved Tijuana in the classic Kamp Krusty episode," Gutierrez told Variety. "I'm forever grateful to [executive producer] Matt Selman and [creator] Matt Groening for giving me the honor to direct my own passionate (and bloody!) animated love letter to the show that inspired me to dream of making cartoons one day. Now, I can die with a huge smile on my face."

Thanks to the recently concluded World Series, The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXXV will continue its tradition of premiering after Halloween. The annual special will premiere this Sunday, November 3 on Fox. One of this year's segments will feature Homer bonded with a pair of sentient jeans in a Venom spoof.

  3. Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed or produced a half-dozen Resident Evil movies that collectively made over $1 billion and later made the poorly received Monster Hunter movie, is taking on another video game project. Anderson is making a movie based on Sega's The House of the Dead series.

The House of the Dead, which debuted in 1997, is familiar territory for Anderson, as the game is focused on an agent fighting against a group of zombies. Specifically, the movie is based on 2002's The House of the Dead 3.

Anderson told Deadline he's always been a fan of the series, dating back to the arcade days.

"I was one of the original players, but now I have teenage kids who also play. That is the real attraction for me, that you've got a cross-generational piece of IP," he said.

The story follows a woman, Lisa Rogan, who is on a mission to save her father. The narrative also digs into the life of Daniel Curien, who is the son of the man who started the zombie outbreak in the first place. He has to deal with the "sins of the father," Anderson said.

"My approach will be to reflect what this hyper-immersive, kinetic video game is, which is why Zack Snyder took these creatures and made them fast moving," Anderson said. "This is a full-on terror ride."

Whereas the Resident Evil series features traps and puzzles, Anderson said his The House of the Dead movie will follow the style of the game--which is to drop players "straight into the middle of the action."

"I'm going to make a movie that mirrors that approach and plays out in real time, dragging the audience straight into the action. It's not going to be kind of lumbered with a whole bunch of backstory that might exclude people who know nothing about House of the Dead. Everyone's going to be on the same page," he said.

In essence, Anderson said his movie aims to be a 90-minute film that aims to be the "most extreme haunted house you've ever been in."

It's still early days for the House of the Dead movie, and there is no word yet on a cast or release date. Before the Resident Evil films and Monster Hunter, Anderson directed 1995's Mortal Kombat. This is also not the first House of the Dead film to be made--infamous director Uwe Boll was responsible for the first in 2003.

The House of the Dead movie is Anderson's second project in the works, joining the fantasy movie In the Lost Lands, which is based on a story from George R.R. Martin and is coming in 2025. Anderson hasn't released a movie since 2020's Monster Hunter, based on the Capcom game. It was poorly received and made only $42 million worldwide.

House of the Dead is the second video game in as many days to have an adaptation get announced, following the news of an Outlast film being made at Saw company Lionsgate.

  4. Amazon has restocked both Deadpool & Wolverine 4K Limited-Edition Steelbooks for the first time in weeks. As of October 31, you can choose your preferred steelbook theme: Deadpool or Wolverine. Unlike many Blu-rays, the Wolverine and Deadpool Limited Editions were not discounted ahead of their October 22 release at Amazon. Both variants sold out at the $66 list price, so it would appear the demand caused Amazon to break with its usual preorder strategy. $66 is quite expensive, especially when compared to the standard 4K Blu-ray edition, which is available for $25 (50% off its list price).

One of the best items is Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie (Hardcover), which arrives on October 29. It takes a closer look at the film and features never-before-seen images and artwork from the blockbuster. It's currently on sale for $90 (was $100). You can also preorder Deadpool & Wolverine: Exposed - Photos From the Set, which is the first Marvel movie to get a book chronicling the production of the film in photographs. It doesn't release until March 25, 2025, but it's cheaper than the art book at $60.

  5. The next batch of Disney+ Star Wars and Marvel Collector's Edition Steelbooks are available to preorder on 4K Blu-ray at Amazon ahead of their December 3 release. The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka Season 1 join the Star Wars lineup, while Hawkeye Season 1 and Loki Season 2 are being added to the Marvel side. Just like the first two waves of Disney+ physical releases, they will only be available in this collectible steelbook format and are bundled with three art cards. But there is one notable difference: audio. These will be the first of Disney's Marvel and Star Wars series to support 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision and Atmos Audio.

Disney+ Steelbook Collector's Edition Preorders at Amazon

Note: Amazon is unlikely to actuallycharge $86 for these. This is merely the list price for the Disney+ Originals Collector's Editions at Amazon. All other Star Wars and Marvel Blu-rays received discounts ahead of launch. With Amazon's preorder price guarantee, you won't be charged until your order ships andthe price will automatically be adjusted to the lowest Amazon offers ahead of release.

Disney+ Collector's Edition Steelbooks are, rather unsurprisingly, very popular. Last year's holiday releases repeatedly sold out ahead of launch, so if you're interested in completing your Mandalorian or Loki collection, or picking up the debut seasons of Ahsoka or Hawkeye, we'd recommend preordering as early as possible. This is especially true if you're aiming to gift any of these 4K Blu-rays this holiday.

Here's a closer look at the Collector's Edition Steelbook releases of The Mandalorian Season 3, Ahsoka Season 1, Hawkeye Season 1, and Loki Season 2. At the bottom of this article, you'll find a complete list of the Star Wars and Marvel 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Collector's Edition Steelbooks in the Disney+ lineup with these included.

Disney started releasing its Marvel and Star Wars TV series on 4K Blu-ray last holiday season with four releases, including the first two seasons of The Mandalorian. In April, the second group of four arrived. Considering this new batch of four features the same style of steelbook art and are bundled with three art cards like all previous releases, it's probably safe to assume Disney will add to this collection again in the future.

Here's a look at all of the Disney Originals from a galaxy far, far away and the MCU to collect.
